Annemarie and Richard J Reynolds Jr Scholarship for New Applicants Fund -- Undergraduate

Description:

The Board of Trustees of The Sapelo Foundation is responsible for the administration and funding of the Annemarie & Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship Program and recommends scholars based on information provided by its Scholarship Committee. Academic standing and other factors considered pertinent will determine scholarship eligibility and selection of scholars by the Board of Trustees.

Scholarships will be awarded to the college, university or technical college on behalf of the student on a one year basis. Starting from the date of a student’s high school graduation, the scholarship can be extended for reapplication for the second, third, fourth, and fifth academic years a student attends college. This extension is only available provided the scholar continues to meet the program’s eligibility and renewal requirements. An application must be filed with The Sapelo Foundation every year through its online scholarship system.

 

new applicant of the scholarship program is any graduating senior from McIntosh County Academy, and any graduate from McIntosh County Academy who has not received a scholarship from The Sapelo Foundation in the last 5 academic years. Please see the following new applicant descriptions for additional information:

1.     A graduating senior from McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA)

2.     A graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA) in the last 5 academic years and this is your first-time applying, OR

3.     A graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA) in the last 5 academic years, you’ve applied in the past and you have never received a scholarship.

Scholarship award levels offered to qualifying new applicants:

·       Graduating McIntosh County Academy seniors attending a 4/year college – $1,500

·       Graduating McIntosh County Academy seniors attending a technical college – $750

·       McIntosh County Academy Alumni in the last 5 academic years (1st time applying/ never received a scholarship)

o   Attending a 4-year college or university - $1,500

o   Attending a technical college - $750




Eligibility:

Applications are accepted January 1-March 1 using the online application found on this page.

 

New Applicant Eligibility

1.     A new applicant is considered as

o   a graduating senior of McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA),

o   a graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA) in the last 5 years and this is your first time applying for this scholarship, or

o   a graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien,GA) in the last 5 academic years, you’ve applied in the past and you have never received a scholarship.

2.     Planning to enroll or currently enrolled in an accredited college or technical school.

3.     Have a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA at the conclusion of last semester (Fall).

4.     Submit an official or unofficial transcript from your high school or college/university.

o   This transcript must include your cumulative GPA as of the conclusion of last semester (Fall).

o   A transcript can be requested from your high school counseling office or your university’s registrar’s office. The Sapelo Foundation prefers official academic transcript submissions.


Selection


Applicants who are selected as scholars for the 2019-2020 academic year will be informed in May/early June. Graduating seniors will be notified of their selection at McIntosh County Academy’s annual Honors Night. At this time, selected applicants must provide The Sapelo Foundation with the online Scholarship Acceptance Form, including the selected applicant’s college acceptance letter. More information will provided to the selected applicants at that time.


Renewal Eligibility

 

A recipient of the Annemarie and Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship may reapply for this scholarship up to 5 academic years from the date of high school graduation. The following renewal eligibility requirements are below:

 

1. Be a graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien, GA) in the last 5 academic years and is a current or previous Scholarship Recipient who is reapplying for the upcoming academic year.

2. Be enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical college the entire academic year.

3. Maintain enrollment in a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester (fall and spring).

4. Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for the entire academic year.

5. Submit an official/unofficial transcript at the time of reapplication. The Sapelo Foundation prefers official transcript submissions.




Changing Schools:

This section only applies to applicants who are selected for our scholarship program.


Before July 1st, if a scholarship recipient changes schools, after filling out the Scholarship Acceptance section, you may update your school’s information by taking the following steps:


1.Log into the scholarship portal (https://sapelofoundation.communityforce.com/)

2.Select the Scholarship Acceptance Section

3.Update the College and Financial Aid Office Information portion with the following information:
  • Name of the new school at which he/she is now enrolled.
  • Name of your Financial Aid Officer.
  • Email and Mailing Address of the new school’s bursar/financial aid office.
  • Student ID#.
  • Upload Acceptance Letter from your new school/institution.


Transferring Colleges after July 1 or in the Middle of the Academic Year

If a scholarship recipient changes schools after the July 1st deadline or at any time during the 2019-2020 academic year, your scholarship will not transfer to the new school. The Sapelo Foundation strongly encourages students to select and enroll in their preferred school choice before July 1st.
