Annemarie and Richard J Reynolds Jr Scholarship for Returning Applicants Fund

Description:

The Board of Trustees of the Sapelo Foundation is responsible for the administration and funding of the Annemarie & Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship Program and recommends scholars based on information provided by its Scholarship Committee. Academic standing and other factors considered pertinent will determine the recommendations of the Board of Trustees.

Scholarships will be awarded to the college, university or technical institute on behalf of the student on a one year basis with provision for extension for the second, third, fourth, and fifth years, provided the scholar continues to meet the program’s eligibility and renewal requirements. An application must be filed with the Sapelo Foundation for each year of study. 


Applicants for postgraduate study will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Please email us at info@sapelofoundation.org with the following information if you are looking for funding as a graduate student: (1) Name, (2) Email address, (3) School you are planning to attend, (4) Course of study, and (5) A brief statement (less than 150 words) of why you are asking for funding.

 

returning applicant of the scholarship program is described as a graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien, GA) in the last 5 years, and a current or previous Scholarship Recipient who is reapplying for the upcoming academic year.    

Scholarship award levels offered to qualifying returning scholars:

  • McIntosh County Academy Alumni (Returning Scholars) attending a 4/year college – $1,000
  • McIntosh County Academy Alumni (Returning Scholars) attending a technical college – $750


Eligibility:

Current and Previous scholarship recipients of the Annemarie and Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. scholarship program must reapply for the scholarship each year.

 

Applications are accepted January 1-March 1 using the online application form found on this page.

 

Returning Applicant Eligibility

1.     A graduate of McIntosh County Academy (Darien, GA) in the last 5 years, and a current or previous Scholarship Recipient who is reapplying for the upcoming academic year.

2.     Currently enrolled in an accredited college or technical school.

3.     Enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours last semester (Fall) and this current semester (Spring).

4.     Have a minimum of a cumulative 2.0 GPA at the conclusion of last semester (Fall).

5.     Submit an unofficial transcript with your cumulative GPA as of the conclusion of last semester (Fall).

 

Renewal Eligibility

 A recipient of the Annemarie and Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship may reapply for this scholarship up to 5 years from the date of high school graduation. The following renewal eligibility requirements are below:

1.     Be enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical college the entire academic year.

2.     Maintain enrollment in a minimum of 9 credit hours each semester (fall and spring).

3.     Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher for the entire academic year.



Changing Schools:

This section only applies to applicants who are selected for our scholarship program.


Before July 1st, if a scholarship recipient changes schools, after filling out the Scholarship Acceptance section, you may update your school’s information by taking the following steps:

1.     Log into the scholarship portal (https://sapelofoundation.communityforce.com/)

2.     Select the Scholarship Acceptance Section

3.     Update the College and Financial Aid Office Information portion with the following information:

a.     Select "No" to the "I am attending the same college/school listed on my application"

b.     Name of the new school at which he/she is now enrolled.

c.     Name of your Financial Aid Officer.

d.     Address of the new school’s bursar/financial aid office.

e.     Student ID# (if applicable).

f.     Upload Acceptance Letter from your new school/institution.

After July 1st, if a scholarship recipient changes schools, he/she must: 

1.     Notify The Sapelo Foundation by logging into your scholarship application through our scholarship portal (https://sapelofoundation.communityforce.com/) by July 15th.

2.     Select the “Changing Colleges” section and provide the following information:

a.     Name of the new school at which he/she is now enrolled.

b.     Name of your Financial Aid Officer.

c.     Address of the new school’s bursar/financial aid office.

d.     Student ID# (if applicable).

e.     Upload Acceptance Letter from your new school/institution.

3.     Notify your original school and request the scholarship funds be returned to The Sapelo Foundation. Upon receipt of these funds, The Sapelo Foundation will then issue payment to the new school. Funds must be received by August 1st.


If the Sapelo Foundation is not notified by July 15th and/or your scholarship funds are not received by August 1st, we will not be able to fund your education for the upcoming academic year and we encourage you to reapply next year.


Transferring Colleges after July 15 or in the Middle of the Academic Year

If you transfer to a different college in the middle of the academic year, The Sapleo Foundation will not be able to support you financially for the remainder of that academic year. We encourage you to reapply for the scholarship for the next academic year when applications are available on January 1st.
